This is our journey to the World Championships Finals 2023!
The South African Table Tennis Board will be staging the ITTF Individual Table Tennis Championship Finals in Durban the end of May 2023 having convincingly beaten Germany with a margin of 90-39 votes. South Africa becomes only the second African country to host the World Championship after Egypt in 1939 (84 Years ago).
The venue will be the Durban International Convention Centre which is one of the most flexible and versatile venues in the world. Thanks to the Centre’s intelligent design and operable walls, it offers an almost unlimited number of venue configurations available. There are hotels, restaurants and an entertainment area within walking distance.
This is potentially the perfect combination of playing conditions for the world’s best and viewing conditions for an African audience that last hosted a World Table Tennis Championship event 81 years ago.
The ITTF World Championships is the most prestigious and important table tennis championship of the year. Spanning 7 days, the top nations from each continent are represented by their top players, it has an extensive media coverage and spectator interest. The event format consists of the Top 128 players in Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles, as well as the Top 64 pairs in Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
